BITCOIN NODES

Verify Bitcoin with a node you understand.

Plan your validating node, storage, synchronization, wallet connection, and maintenance around a real purpose.

Validation is a distinct job

A full node validates blocks and transactions against its rules. Mining produces candidate blocks; an indexer organizes data for queries; an explorer presents it. Running a node does not automatically provide a public explorer, an address-history API, or a mining income stream.

The Bitcoin full node guide explains the setup process. Check current release instructions for hardware, operating system, bandwidth, and storage requirements rather than relying on a dated number in a tutorial.

Choose storage for the actual workload

A pruned node can validate the chain while retaining less historical block data on disk. Pruning changes what older data is kept, not whether the historical blocks were validated during synchronization. Other services may need data or indexing that your chosen configuration does not provide.

Document the needs of the wallet, indexer, or application that will connect to the node. A storage-saving option should be evaluated against the entire setup, not only the node’s ability to start.

Confirm readiness and connection

A running process is not proof that initial synchronization is complete. Use the software’s documented indicators to check its chain view and readiness. Then verify that the intended wallet actually connects to the node instead of continuing to use its default provider.

If an additional server or indexer sits between the wallet and node, record that dependency. The architecture should explain where each piece obtains information and what happens when that piece is unavailable.

Restrict access and maintain deliberately

Do not expose administrative RPC interfaces to the public internet merely to simplify a browser integration. Follow current authentication and network-binding guidance, protect credentials, and keep release and configuration records.

Our complete node planning guide covers installation verification, synchronization, recovery distinctions, and ongoing maintenance. Read explorer vs. wallet vs. node before adding components that may not serve your goal.
